Operating company's responsibility

The operator's duty of care includes, among other things, planning safety measures and monitoring their implementation.

All persons who perform work involving the system must be trained by the operating company on the system. You must have read and understood the instructions. By signing, you confirm that you have done so.

The operating company keeps track of the signatures on a separate list. This list provides the operating company with a list of authorized machine operators.

Minimizing the risk of injury​

To minimize the risk of injury, the following guidelines apply:

  • Work on the system may only be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Personnel must be authorized by the operating company to perform the respective task.
  • Before starting work, employees must familiarize themselves with all safety equipment.
  • Make sure that safety devices are never bypassed. Check regularly to make sure your staff is following these guidelines!
  • If safety devices have failed or are malfunctioning, this must be reported immediately to the supervisor in charge. They will decide on the next steps.
  • Employees must familiarize themselves with the controls before starting work.
  • The system, its environment and the workstations must be kept neat and clean.
  • Personnel must wear the personal protective equipment required for this system. The required protective equipment is specified in the plant regulations. Managers are instructed to ensure that their employees wear personal protective equipment.
  • From the start of installation until handover to the operating company, qualified first responders must be on call and ready to administer the necessary first aid.
  • Processes, responsibilities and authorities related to the system must be clearly defined. Everyone must be clear on what to do in the event of an incident. Staff must be regularly trained on this matter.
  • Warning signs and instructions on the system must be complete and clearly legible. Therefore, clean and replace warning signs and notices regularly.

Naming the system operators​

The operating company must determine which individuals are authorized to perform work on the system. These individuals must have the necessary knowledge for their respective tasks and be properly trained.

Training the system operators​

Knowledge of generally applicable safety regulations is one of the prerequisites for using and operating the system safely. One of the generally applicable safety regulations is that system operators must wear and use their personal protective equipment.

The system may only be operated if the generally applicable safety notices and the instructions described in these instructions are followed. The operating company must provide authorized personnel with regular, recurring training on how to operate the system safely. The operating company's obligation to provide regular training to authorized personnel applies in particular to the operation of the system, work on electrical systems and installation, setup and maintenance work.

The operating company of the system is required to provide regular and recurring training to personnel working on the system regarding the work procedures, hazards and safety measures relevant to them, ensuring that authorized personnel always have the necessary qualifications.

Protective equipment​

The operating company ensures that system operators are provided with the necessary protective clothing and equipment and use them when working with the system.
