Handling ESD-sensitive components

The robot system is equipped with components that are sensitive to ESD (electrostatic discharge).

Therefore, in addition to the usual precautions – such as turning off the power supply before removing components – additional instructions apply. Please follow these guidelines to prevent damage to ESD-sensitive components:

  • Store ESD-sensitive components in their original packaging until they are installed, such as in a special ESD-safe bag.
  • Put on an ESD wrist strap or wear ESD shoes. Connect the wrist strap to the grounding point of the system. This wrist strap dissipates the static electricity built up on your body by grounding it.
  • Hold ESD-sensitive components by their outer edges. Do not touch any contacts, connectors or other electronic components.
  • Do not place the ESD-sensitive component on a non-conductive material or on a metal table. If you need to set down the ESD-sensitive component, place it in the designated ESD bag.
